The Wells College softball team split a NEAC doubleheader against Morrisville State College on Tuesday, April 10 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells earned a 6-0 win in the opening game behind a complete-game two-hitter pitched by Naomi Kubo. Morrisville took the second game 6-4.
Wells is 3-12 overall and 2-4 in the NEAC. Morrisville is 4-12 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Wells continues NEAC play with road doubleheaders this weekend, at SUNY Poly on Saturday and at St. Elizabeth on Sunday.
Wells 6, Morrisville 0
The Express broke the game open with three runs in the fourth. Lizzie Monnat singled to bring in a run, Clara DiMino reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Dallia Rorick to score, and Devora had her second sac fly RBI of the game to bring in Kubo.
Wells starting pitcher Naomi Kubo took a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning before Morrisville's Savannah Hobbie doubled down the left field line with one out. Kubo allowed another hit in the seventh, but kept Morrisville off the board.
In seven innings, Kubo allowed two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Kubo, Monnat, and DiMino had two hits each for the Express.
Morrisville 6, Wells 4
The Mustangs led 5-0 after the first three innings before Wells answered with four runs in the top of the fourth. Gabby Sawyer, Dallia Rorick, and Ellie Schwoebel delivered RBI singles. Naomi Kubo brought in the fourth run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Morrisville added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Jessica Conover pitched for Wells and retired eight batters in a row after Wells pulled to within one run.
Seven different players in the Wells lineup accounted for the seven hits, with Kubo having an extra-base hit on a third-inning double.
