CANTON, N.Y. - The Wells College men's lacrosse team led 8-0 well into the third quarter and held off a late raly by SUNY Canton to earn an 8-6 victory on Sunday afternoon in Canton, N.Y. With the victory the Express improve to 1-2 on the season while Canton falls to 1-2.

Nicholas Dolan (Englewood, Colo.) led the Express with a game high six goals and Dan Munsell (Doylestown, Pa.) added two goals and two assists to pace Wells on the offensive end of the ball. Christopher Galluzzo (New London, N.H.) earned his first collegiate victory in net finishing with nine saves. David Kaus (Erie, Pa.) finished with a team high six groundballs while Christopher Burger (West Valley, N.Y.) scooped up four groundballs.

Two man-up goals and an unassisted tally by Dolan propelled Wells to an early 3-0 lead after the first quarter. The Express continued to roll in the second quarter with an unassisted goal by Munsell and a late goal by Dolan to give Wells a commanding 5-0 lead heading into the break. 

Two straight goals by Dolan and Munsell's second goal of the day gave Wells an 8-0 lead with 7:51 to play in the third quarter. The Kangaroos of Canton refused to give in, scoring three straight goals to cut the lead to five 8-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Canton pulled to within three with four minutes to play but, the Express defense held strong, allowing just one tally with 41-seconds to play as Wells held on for the 8-6 victory.

"The whole team played well and we couldn't be more proud as a coaching staff," said head coach Bryan Jenkins. "Canton is a very good team and it took everyone, giving it everything they had to get the win."

The Express finished with 27 shots on goal while allowing just 15 by the Kangaroos. The Express also held a 20-15 edge in groundballs. 

Wells will look to make it two in row when they take on Mt. St. Vincent College on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Schoelkopff Field on the campus of Cornell University.
