AURORA, N.Y. – Dave Foltz (Auburn, N.Y.) scored a career high 29 points and Terry Harrison (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Wells College men's basketball team routed the NEAC North Division leading Morrisville State Mustangs 82-62 on Tuesday evening in Aurora. With the victory the Express improve to 11-11 (8-4 NEAC) while the Mustangs fall to 14-8 (11-1 NEAC).
Tied 12-12 early in the first half, a Taylor trey and a thunderous dunk by Harrison sparked Wells to a 10-0 run and a 22-12 lead. Following a Morrisville timeout, the Express continued with the hot hand as 3-pointers by Foltz and Taylor along with buckets from Harrison and Corey Lewis (Plattsburg, N.Y.) pushed the Express lead to 18 (38-20).
Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored five points in a 7-0 run to pull Morrisville to within 11 points (38-27), but Wells continued to pour it on, extending their lead to 20 on a dunk by Tyler Walker (Spencer, N.Y.), before two free-throws from Ater with two seconds remaining cut the lead back to 18 (52-34) at the break.
It was an impressive first half for the Express, who finished 19-40 from the field, including 7-14 from behind the arc and 7-7 from the charity stripe.
It was much of the same from the Express in the second half, stretching their lead to as many 26 points, capped by an alley-oop dunk by Harrison on a 20 foot pass from Taylor to give Wells a commanding 72-46 lead with 5:14 to play as they would cruise to the victory.
Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 13 points and seven rebounds while Ater added 12 points, five rebounds, and four blocks.
Wells shot 46 percent from the field for the game, including 8-20 from long range, and 16-19 from the foul line. The Express also used a confusing full court press the majority of the game, forcing 22 Mustang turnovers while tying their season high in steals with 14.
It was redemption of sorts for the Express who have now won four straight and seven of their last eight with their last loss coming at the hands of the Mustangs 73-54 back on Jan. 25 in Morrisville.
The Express close out their home schedule this weekend when they welcome SUNY Cobleskill to campus for a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday before taking on SUNY IT at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
