Field Hockey Stunned By Marywood, 6-1

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Wells College field hockey team posted a 6-1 loss to the Pacers of Marywood University Tuesday evening. The Express (3-8) post their eighth loss of the season while the Pacers (1-8) collect only their first victory of the season. Prior to this evening's game, Marywood had not scored more than one goal in a game across the entire season and have not posted a victory since Oct. 17, 2012.

Sophomore Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.), who scored her first collegiate goal against Bay Path on Saturday, converted the first Wells shot on goal for the Express at 26:34, cutting the hosts lead in half to bring the score to 2-1 as the minutes ticked away in the first half. However, the Express recorded only three additional shots as sophomore Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) recorded two shots for Wells while classmate Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) posted the final Express shot.

Marywood's offense was clicking the entire evening as Leanne McManus potted four goals for the Pacers. Sarah Hindmen and Amelia Waibel each struck for one goal apiece en route to their team's first victory of the season. In total, the hosts outshot the Express by a 24-to-4 margin and held the decisive 8-to-3 edge in penalty corners.

Express goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) allowed six goals on 16 shots while her counterpart, Natalie Winters, turned aside 2-of-3 shots on net that she faced. Defensively, Shelby Bourn (Sidney, N.Y.) recorded two defensive saves for the Express.

Wells returns to action Sunday, Oct. 6 as they host Nazareth College in a noontime game at the Athletic Association Field.
