AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's basketball team was selected to the D3Hoops.com 2013 Women's All-East Region Second Team for her performance across the 2012-13 women's basketball season, D3Hoops.com announced late Tuesday afternoon. Players were nominated for the various D3Hoops.com awards by Sports Information Directors across all NCAA Division III schools. 729 players in total were nominated nationwide, setting an all-time record for the awards, conducted by D3Hoops.com for the 12th season.
Roser, who was selected as the 2012-13 North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year and is an 11-time NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week recipient across her career, becomes the first women's basketball player in program history to earn placement amongst the D3Hoops.com award winners.
This season, Roser led the Wells College women's basketball team to the playoffs in only their third year of existence. In 26 games on the season, Roser has averaged 21.2 points per game while also averaging a career-high mark of 16.7 rebounds per game. Roser also wrapped up the year leading the NEAC in both categories, edging Lyndsey Brognano of SUNY Institute of Technology by one point per game and ranking first ahead of Megan McDermott of Cazenovia College by greater than six rebounds per game, on average.
According to the most recent NCAA Statistical Report released on Mar. 10, Roser ranks first across all NCAA Division III women's basketball players with 16.7 rebounds per game while ranking second in double-doubles with 24. Roser, who led all players in double-doubles as her season concluded, was recently passed by Sarah Collins of Babson College, whose team recently fell in the second round of the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament to the Jumbos of Tufts University.
Her 21.2 points per game rank her 10th nationally in that category while her 2.77 blocked shots per game place her 14th in the nation within that category. She ranks third across all players in triple-doubles this year, recording her first career triple-double on Wednesday, Jan. 30 against Cazenovia College, posting 20 rebounds, 15 total points and 10 blocks. Last season, Roser concluded her sophomore season ranked third nationally in rebounds per game (14.4) while as a freshman in 2010-11, Roser ranked sixth nationally in double-doubles (21), eighth nationwide in points per game (21.9) and 10th in rebounds per game (13.7).
Roser racked up a double-double across 24 of her 26 games played and boasts 61 career double-doubles in 71 total games played across her three-year playing career. She has recorded at least 10 points in her past 34 games and has failed to reach double-digit point totals in only two of her 71 career games played. She has also recorded double-digit rebound totals in all but only eight career games.
On Nov. 28, 2012 of this past season, Roser secured her 1,000th career point against the Saxons of Alfred University. Additionally, Roser secured her 1,000th career rebound on Feb. 10 of this year while also setting the program's single-game scoring mark of 39 total points against the Wildcats of SUNY Institute of Technology.
Roser currently holds the single-game program records in points scored (39), field goals made (13, 2/10/13 at SUNYIT), field goals attempted (2x, 29, vs. Morrisville St., 11/23/10; at Cazenovia, 12/1/10), free throws made (17, vs. Cazenovia, 1/22/11), free throws attempted (19, vs. Cazenovia, 1/22/11), free throw percentage (1.000, 3x, most recently 13-13, at SUNYIT, 2/10/13), most rebounds (31, vs. Penn St.-Berks, 2/13/11), and most blocked shots (10, at Cazenovia, 1/30/13).
For her career, Roser ranks at the top of the program record book in many statistical categories, including points (1,471), scoring average (20.7), field goals made (508), field goals attempted (1,157), free throws made (439), free throws attempted (599), rebounds (1,063), rebounding average (15.0), assists (168), blocked shots (199), blocked shots average (2.8), steals (136), games started (65) and minutes played (2,431).

Roser, a two sport athlete for the Express, also served as the Wells College women's soccer team's starting goalkeeper this past season. In her rookie season, Roser posted a 7-12 overall record alongside a 2.81 goals-against average in 1,728 minutes of action. She accumulated three shutouts alongside her first collegiate point, an assist. She currently ranks first all-time in program history with 10.05 saves per game and fifth all-time with 191 total saves.
Currently, Roser holds the single-season record for victories in a season (7) and stands second all-time in shutouts in a season (3). She ranks third all-time with seven victories and was ranked second within the conference with 191 saves. Nationally, Roser finished her season ranked seventh in total saves.
Including Roser, only six players in Wells College history since the 1999-00 season have concluded their athletic seasons ranked within the top 10 nationally in official NCAA statistical categories. Ranking within the top-10 in categories for both women's basketball and women's soccer, Roser is the first student-athlete in Wells College history to accomplish that feat as a multi-sport athlete.
