Women's Basketball Dropped By Hamilton, 79-35

CLINTON, N.Y. – Freshman guard Holli Erkson (Cooperstown, N.Y.) posted 12 points for the Express, but the Wells College women's basketball team posted a 79-35 loss to the Continentals of Hamilton College Wednesday evening at the Scott Field House. The Express fall to 3-8 overall on the season while the Continentals even their overall record at 6-6.

The Express came out of the gate strong as sophomore Cassie Smythe (Eden, N.Y.) buried a three point basket to elevate the Express to a 3-2 lead, but the Continentals controlled play for the remainder of the contest. Smythe added the game's next two points, but by that point in the contest, the Express trailed by an 18-5 margin.

The Continentals built up a 49 point lead with a successful layup by Shea Patrick with 1:56 remaining in the contest. In total, Hamilton scored 42 points in the paint while converting 41 points off of Express turnovers. The Hamilton bench outscored the Express by a 38-to-5 margin.

Erkson posted 12 points for the Express and also recorded a team-best four assist. Sophomore Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapaa, Hawaii) posted 10 points and a team-best two steals. Freshman Lindsay Achzet (Williamsport, N.Y.) tallied six rebounds to lead the team. For the Continentals, Madie Harlem posted 15 points while Eliza Howe added 14 points of her own. Carly Gruenberg posted 11 total points in addition to eight boards.

The Express, who still sport a 2-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference record, return to action Saturday, Jan. 12 as they host the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Harrisburg in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
