ROSER AND RYAN COMBINE FOR 42 POINTS IN LOSS TO WILSON

(Chambersburg, Pa.)─ The Wilson College Phoenix battled back from a ten point halftime deficit to defeat the Wells College Express 57-53 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women's basketball action Sunday afternoon in Chambersburg, Pa. The Phoenix drained four clutch free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining to seal the victory. The loss drops the Express to 0-3 (0-2 NEAC), while the Phoenix improve to 2-1 (1-1 NEAC).
 
Freshmen Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y./Camden) notched her second straight double-double in as many days, finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Kristin Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) added 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Express.
 
Vanessa Whitfield and Tara Fields each had 14 points, while Alaina Hofer chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds to lead the Phoenix.
 
Wells shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the field and were 11-21 from the foul line.  Wilson shot slightly lower at 31.6 percent (18-57) but capitalized from the foul line hitting on 17 of 25 free throws. Both teams finished with 42 rebounds, while the Express committed 23 turnovers to the Phoenix 18.
 
The Express opened with an 8-0 run and would ride Roser and Ryan, who combined for 26 of the Express 29 points in the half to a 10 points halftime lead (29-19).  The Phoenix struggled from the field in the first half, making just six of 30 shots in the half.
 
It was a different Phoenix team in the second half, Fields drained a 3-pointer to open the half and Wilson began to chip away at the lead. 33 minutes after the game started Wilson took their first lead on a jumper by Hofer, who scored the next six points, as the Phoenix opened up a 47-41 lead with 6:24 to play.
 
The Express climbed to within two (55-53) with six second remaining but Wells was forced to foul and Wilson would hit both free throws to seal the four point victory.
 
The Express return to action next on Nov. 23 at 6.p.m. against NEAC opponent Morrisville State College in Aurora.
