The Wells College men's swimming team sent seven individual swimmers into event finals Saturday night on the second day of the three-day North Eastern Athletic Conference championship meet hosted by SUNY Cobleskill. Wells stands third in team scoring with 251 points, 38 points behind second-place Gallaudet University.
Wells highlighted the day with a conference championship in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Brandon Sprague, Aaron Connolly, Arthur Brooks, and Owen May swam 8:50.75 to win by more than 13 seconds. The time ranks eighth in Wells history.
Arthur Brooks swam a career-best time of 5:14.77 in the 400-yard individual medley and placed second overall. That time was more than seven seconds faster than his preliminary time, and is fifth-best in program history. Brooks entered the championship meet with the seventh-best time in school history and improved upon that by more than 11 seconds.
Richard Ford took third in the finals of the 400 IM with a time of 5:51.07, a 10-second improvement over his regular-season time in the event. Ford ranks 10th on the Wells top-10 list in this event.
Shawn Snell was third in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.10.
Ian Ronan and Aaron Connolly were second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ronan's time of 1:05.54 was a career-best and moved him up to second in the all-time top-10 list at Wells. Connolly clocked 1:14.63, a career-best that moves him into 10th on the program's record board in the 100 breast.
The final day of the championship meet will begin with preliminary races Sunday at 10 a.m. and event finals starting at 4:45 p.m. Fans can follow the action and live webcast via the championship meet site.
