(Geneva, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's and women's swim team defeated the Cazenovia College Wildcats 50-49 and 51-48 respectively, while the women's team fell to William Smith 59-26. William Smith also defeated Cazenovia 63-35 in the triple-dual meet held at William Smith Saturday afternoon in Geneva.
Drew Teter (Campbell, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) paced the Express with a first place finish in the 200 Yard I.M. with a time of 2:23.33 and a first place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with a time 1:14.67 (4TH All-Time at Wells). Chris Guard (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter) took first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:09.35, while Michael Scharvella (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) placed first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:06.
The men's team also set all-time marks in the 200 Medley Relay (Scharvella, Teter, Taylor Dunn, Matt Sleezer) with a time of 1:56.55, good for sixth all-time. Scharvella moved to 2nd all-time in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 12:33.25, while Chris Mahar moved to 10th all-time in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:24.05.
In women's action against Cazenovia, Idolyn Villiotti (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) took first, third overall, with a time of 2:13.17. Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) placed first, third overall, in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 13:57.17 and first against Cazenovia, third overall, in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:43.18. Gabby Spencer (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) placed first overall in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:29.68, moving to 4th all-time at Wells, besting times from as far back as 1981. Spencer also placed first against Cazenovia, third overall, in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:01.35.
The men's and women's swim team return to the pool on Feb. 18 when they travel to Cobleskill, N.Y. to take part in the three day North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship. The men's team will be defending their conference championship from a year ago, while the women's team will be looking to avenge their second place finish.
