The Wells College men's soccer team dropped a one-goal match Sunday, Oct. 22 at Gallaudet University as Gallaudet won 2-1. Wells is 4-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Gallaudet is 3-12-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the NEAC.
Wells had a 12-9 advantage in shots and an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
Gallaudet opened the scoring in the first half with a penalty-kick goal in the 29th minute.
In the second half, Gallaudet extended its lead to 2-0 with 30:12 left to play. Wells scored on a penalty kick goal by Junger Vargas with 2:55 remaining. The Express earned a corner kick in the final minute of play but couldn't get a shot on target.
It was the team-leading ninth goal of the year for Vargas.
Owen May made two saves for Wells.
Wells faces NEAC North Division opponents Keuka and SUNY Poly this week to close the regular season. Wednesday's game is at Keuka College at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon, SUNY Poly visits Wells. It will be Senior Day for the Express men's soccer team.
