Men’s Basketball Drops Third Straight Contest, 57-48

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wells College men's basketball team posted a 57-48 loss to the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon. The Express have lost all six road contests on the season and fall to 5-8 overall on the year and to 1-2 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Chargers, who were winless dating back to Feb. 22, 2012 of last season, earn their first victory of the season (1-10, 1-2 NEAC).

The Express possessed only one lead in the first half as the Chargers kept the Wells shooters at bay. Junior Ryan Hood (Massillon, Ohio) converted a jumper with 11:58 remaining in the first half, placing the Express up by a 12-10 margin. However, the Chargers would go on to score the game's next 15 points to build a 13 point advantage with 3:49 remaining in the first half. Hood's three pointer with 2:12 remaining would cut the deficit to eight, where it would remain entering halftime.

Wells chipped away in the second half, cutting their deficit to one point courtesy of an E.J. Taylor (Tampa Bay, Fla.) layup only two minutes into the half. With 11:17 remaining in regulation, Jordan Bishop (Arlington, Texas) converted a free throw to cut the deficit to 41-38, but Lancaster Bible would hold the Express at arm's length for the remainder of the tilt.

Cumulatively, Taylor led the Express with 16 points, firing home six field goals alongside two three point baskets. Hood also poured home two three point attempts while also scooping up a team-best nine boards. Bishop also accumulated 10 points in the game. For the Chargers, Dan Karl led the way with 20 points via three three point attempts. Keith Keitner and Jon Bird tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Jan. 9 as they travel to play Hamilton College in an 8:00 p.m. contest.
