AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College Department of Athletics has partnered with BoxCast, an Internet broadcasting company, to provide high definition webcasts for six of Wells’ 14 NCAA Division III sports for the 2014-15 season. Sponsored by the Information Technology and Advancement offices at Wells, fans will be able to view broadcasts for men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s swimming in addition to other on-campus events, such as commencement, lectures and educational programming.
The first-ever high definition broadcast of a Wells sporting event will be Friday, Aug. 29 as the women’s volleyball team hosts D’Youville at 7:00 p.m. Fans unable to view any of the free webcasts throughout the year will have full access to BoxCast’s online archives immediately following the contest. The feasibility of streaming outdoor sporting events on campus is being explored.
“The Wells administration has overwhelmingly supported campus-wide initiatives that invest in technology to benefit our students,” remarked Assistant Athletics Director Griffin Spencer. “The proprietary hardware used by BoxCast will allow fans of Wells College Athletics to become even more involved and connected with their favorite teams. We are eager to launch on Friday and to see what the future holds for this technology within the department.”
With an infusion of new technology to the campus, a new work study position has been created to manage the department’s videos and images. In conjunction with the office of Experiential Learning and Career Services, an Athletic Multimedia Assistant position was created - it is expected that student work study employees will manage the BoxCast webcasts.
All broadcasts can be viewed by logging on to http://www.wells-express.com/livevideo. All video streams will begin a half hour prior to the start of the game. Links to the live video stream can be found on each team's schedule page.
